Since 2014, we have stood with vulnerable communities across Nigeria. This is how it began, what we did about it, and where you come in.
01The problem
Port Harcourt, 2014.
Our founders saw it every day. Pollution, flooding and lost livelihoods were changing the communities around them, and families were paying the price.
Creeks that fed families turned black with oil.
Fishing and farming communities lost the water that sustained them.
Farmland was failing.
Harvests shrank, and with them the income of whole households.
Children missed school every flood season.
Learning stopped each time the water rose.
02Who we are
Rooted in communities. Connected to the world.
We began with awareness and advocacy, helping communities understand and speak up about what was happening to their environment. Our headquarters and largest team are in the Niger Delta, so we know first hand what oil pollution and recurring floods do to livelihoods and learning.
Over time we grew into an organisation that also delivers practical solutions: restoring forests, bringing solar power and environmental education into schools, improving access to water and sanitation, and opening dialogue between farmers, government and industry.

06Carrying their voice
From the creek to the climate table.
Along the way, PIGD earned a voice in the global climate conversation, with observer and accredited status at the United Nations. That status means we can carry the voices of the communities we work with to the places where global decisions are made, including COP26, COP27 and COP31.
