Where we work
We work where environmental and economic challenges hit hardest, and where communities are ready to lead the response.
01Where it starts
Our headquarters and largest team are in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. It gives us deep experience in the Niger Delta’s riverine, coastal and oil affected communities, one of the most environmentally affected regions in Africa.
From there, our programmes, partnerships and advocacy reach communities in other states, and we expand to new states each year.
Where we work
Creeks that once fed families were black with oil. Farmland was failing. Children were missing school every flood season. That is what we saw in 2014, and it is why Prime Initiative for Green Development began.
This is the record of where we went next: the classrooms, creeks, farms and forests, and the rooms where global decisions are made. Choose a state to read what happened there, in our own words.

04Beyond Nigeria
As a UNFCCC observer organisation, we take what we learn in Nigerian communities to the places where global climate decisions are made.
2021 · COP26, Glasgow
As the world counted down to COP26 in Glasgow, PIGD joined discussions on Africa's position and carried the priorities of Nigerian youth into them. Africa's concerns and development needs must be reflected in global negotiations, and young people need a seat at the table where decisions about their future are made.
2022 · COP27, Sharm el-Sheikh
At COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh, PIGD team members demanded urgent attention to loss and damage and to climate finance, as catastrophic floods had overtaken communities at home. We took the suffering of displaced and flood-affected people to the front of international climate policy.
